Professional Biography

Maria Giovanna Tanda (Benetutti (SS), 1956) graduated in Civil Engineering (Hydraulic address) at the Politecnico di Milano (1979), associate professor of Hydraulics at the Department of Hydraulic, Environmental and Survey Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano until 31st October 2001; she has held courses in Fluid Mechanics and Underground Hydrology at the Polytechnic. Since 1 November 2001 she has been an extraordinary professor of Hydraulic Constructions, then (2004) confirmed in the role at the Department of Civil, Environmental, Land and Architecture Engineering (DICATeA) of the University of Parma.

Since 2010 she has been President of the Board of the Degree Course in Engineering for the Environment and Territory at the University of Parma.

She is a member of the International Association of Hydraulic Research (IAHR), of the America Geophysical Union (AGU), of the International Water Association (IWA) and of the Italian Hydraulic Group (GII). She was reviewer of the scientific journals Transport in Porous Media, Water Resources Research, Journal of Hydrology, Stochastic Environmental Research and Risk Assessment (SERRA), L’Acqua, IGEA.

She belongs to Centroacque.eu based at the DICATeA of the University of Parma.

She participated in several research projects in co-financing with the Ministry of Education, University and Scientific Research as a member (1999) and head of a local unit (2002, 2004).

She was in charge of the Operational Unit of INTERREG Projects (Year 2000), of the European Project “INCORE, Integrated concept for groundwater remediation” (2001-2003), of the Project of strategic interest “Integrated and sustainable management of water resources in different territorial contexts “(GENESTO for short) (2002-2005).

She was coordinator of research entrusted to the University on behalf of third parties by the Po River Basin Authority (1999), by the Sangemini Company (2002-2003), by the Provincial Administration of Genoa (2004-2005), by the Company GAIA S.p.A. (since 2013), of the Versalis Company (since 2013).

She is the author or co-author of about 100 scientific or educational publications.
